The Liz sind Liz Allbee, Liz Korhan Erel und Liz Kosack. Die drei Berliner*innen schwimmen in den Strömungen von experimenteller, improvisierter, jazziger, beatbasierter elektronischer und textlastiger Musik und verbinden den Genremix mit multimedialen Streifzügen unter anderem in den Bereichen Video, Puppenspiel und Performance. Seit 2014 spielen sie sowohl als improvisierendes Trio als auch als kompositorisches Team zusammen.

In ihrer neuesten Produktion No Comet erschaffen The Liz ein Stück nicht-humanistischer spekulativer Fiktion, in dem sie von einer Welt ausgehen, in der die Dinosaurier nicht ausgestorben sind und in der sie sich tatsächlich zu hochintelligenten Wesen entwickelt haben. Als Spezies neigen wir Menschen dazu, unseren Platz in der Welt als selbstverständlich anzusehen und vergessen dabei, dass die Evolution – und das Leben selbst – auf Zufall und Kontingenz beruht. In No Comet betrachten The Liz diese zufälligen Ereignisse und stellen sich andere mögliche Vergangenheiten, Gegenwarten und Zukünfte vor, um hoffentlich eine größere Perspektive zu erreichen, durch die man unsere vermeintlich festen Begriffe von Intelligenz und Gesellschaft betrachten kann.

Nguyễn + Transitory besteht aus Nguyễn Baly und Tara Transitory. Sie arbeiten im Grenzbereich von Klang, Performance und Installation hauptstächlich mit modularen Synthesizern und analogen Tonbändern. Dabei versuchen sie, Klang, Synthese, Geräusche, Rhythmus und performative Aspekte weniger aus einer kolonialen Perspektive zu betrachten – stattdessen untersuchen sie den Zusammenhang von Klangfrequenzen, der Körperlichkeit von Klangerzeugung und den daraus resultierenden Vibrationen mit kognitiven Erinnerungen, gespeicherten Emotionen und Katharsis. Bei KONTRAKLANG präsentieren sie ein elektronisches Duo-Set.

The Liz is a power trio, consisting of Liz Allbee, Liz Korhan Erel and Liz Kosack. The three Berliners swim the currents of experimental, improv, jazz, beat-based electronic and text-ridden musics, coupling it all with multi-media forays into video, puppetry, and performance, among other things. They have been playing together since 2014 as an improvising trio as well as a compositional team.

In their latest production No Comet, The Liz creates a piece of non-humanist speculative fiction, positing a world where the dinosaurs didn´t become extinct and are, in fact, highly sentient beings. As a species, humans tend to take for granted our place in the world, forgetting that evolution — and life itself — is predicated upon chance and contingency. In No Comet, The Liz considers these chance events and imagines other possible pasts, presents and futures, in order to hopefully acquire a larger lens through which to view ideas of sapience and societies.

Nguyễn + Transitory consists of Nguyễn Baly and Tara Transitory. They work on the borderline between sound, performance and installation, mainly with modular synthesizers and analog tapes. In doing so, they try to look at sound, synthesis, noise, rhythm and performative aspects less from a colonial perspective – instead, they investigate the connection of sound frequencies, the physicality of sound production and the resulting vibrations with cognitive memories, stored emotions and catharsis. At KONTRAKLANG they present an electronic duo set.
